The Specialty Crop Company was founded in the fall of 1989 by Kevin and Diane Herman. Since its inception it has grown to farm figs, pistachios, citrus, almonds, and grapes exclusively in Madera and Merced Counties. These properties consist of owned, leased and managed ranches. As president of The Specialty Crop company, Kevin Herman feels very strongly about participating on the boards and commissions that help to promote the products that they grow. He presently is chairman of the California Fresh Fig Commission, a member of the Valley Fig Growers and a past chairman of the Dried Fig Advisory Board. We also believe in participating in industry experimental trials and educational seminars that help to keep us on the cutting edge of new technological innovations. In spite of the above, our perspective as a third generation farmer reminds us that more than anything else we still need to spend lots of time in the field watching things grow.
